Air simulation on a Dyson fan
In my first masters year I opted for a Solidworks Simulation course at our University. For our final assignment in this course, I researched if the following Dyson graph is a good representation of the truth. In other words, I researched if they lie in their advertisement or not.
The simulation
The results
Although it is a possibility that Dyson fans are still 'better' than normal fans, their advertisement is false. The air is accelerated three times instead of fifteen times, the air inside the fan is not equally distributed and the surrounding air only gets sucked in on the top half of the air stream. I verified these results by (manually) observing the airstream around a real Dyson fan.
